1Ronwen Williams – Mamelodi Sundowns

There were doubts about whether the Bafana Bafana captain would play regularly at Masandawana after completing his high-profile transfer from their city rivals SuperSport United in July 2022.

However, Williams dethroned club captain Denis Onyango as the first-choice keeper and he went on to set a record for the most clean sheets (18) in a single PSL season as he played an instrumental role in helping Sundowns clinch the league championship with seven games to spare.

Following an amazing campaign, the 31-year-old was nominated for the PSL Players’ Player of the Season and Footballer of the Season accolades, and he was also named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Season and GOAL Goalkeeper of the Season.

2Nkosinathi Sibisi – Orlando Pirates

The Bafana Bafana international hit the ground running after joining Orlando Pirates from Lamontville Golden Arrows in July 2022 – producing Man of the Match performances in his first few matches for the team.

Sibisi became a consistent performer at the heart of the Bucs’ defence throughout the term – playing 35 matches across all competitions as the Buccaneers kept 15 clean sheets with him on the pitch and he is arguably the best centre-back in the land at the moment.

The 27-year-old was nominated for the PSL Defender of the Season award and he was also named GOAL Defender of the Season having played a vital role in helping Pirates clinch a cup double.

3Iqraam Rayners – Stellenbosch FC

The 2018/19 NFD Golden Boot award winner was undoubtedly the best PSL signing from the January 2023 transfer window as he rejoined Stellenbosch FC from SuperSport United.

Rayners scored six goals from four matches to help Stellies reach the Nedbank Cup semi-finals for the first time which saw him scoop the Player of the Tournament award at the PSL awards.

He also remarkably netted nine goals from 10 league games – inspiring the Western Cape club to a sixth-place finish in the PSL and he was also handed his maiden Bafana Bafana call-up last month.

4Miguel Timm – Orlando Pirates

The experienced midfielder joined the Buccaneers on a free transfer at the end of the 2021-22 season as the Soweto giants beat their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs to his signature.

Timm quickly became coach Jose Riveiro’s first-choice central midfielder – featuring in 39 matches across all competitions and he was nominated for the MTN8 Last Man Standing award after producing a Man of the Match display in the final.

Now considered one of the best midfielders in the country, Timm helped the Buccaneers clinch the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 title, and he is now a regular member of the Bafana Bafana squad.
